about Sara + Pasta&Co.

My soul (and palate) is a flavorful mix of Mediterranean traditions. I was born and raised in Northwestern Italy, in the same, small city where my dad grew up, a place where polenta, cupetti and lügàniga are found. All my mom’s family is from Sicily and their story starts at the end of the 1800’s, with vine grafting at the shadow of ‘Idda’ (Etna, the Volcano is a ‘she’). From there, they spread to Libya and ended back in Italy, and in Australia, UK, and South America. The international route continues with me, today.

My name’s Sara, and after spending over 10 years in the States, I now live with my husband and kids in a small, beautiful beach town on Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast. My years in Houston, TX, 5000 miles away from my mom-perfectly-prepared meals, taught me to roll up my sleeves and get myself to the kitchen. As it turns out, I learned a great deal from observing my mom and nonna’s kneading and sautéing.

Here at Pasta&Co, you’ll find Italian recipes (both traditional ones and with a twist), gluten-free versions (we have some sensitivities to gluten and dairy), vegan and vegetarian dishes – all made from scratch. We use organic ingredients when we can, grass-fed meats and pastured eggs. We source organic produce, raw milk, cheese and house-churned butter from our local farmers. We grind our own flour, make our own flour mixes and condiments, make our own pasta, cakes, cookies, pastries, and juice our own juices. We keep it very real. We experiment daily, take it easy, and we learn from others and each other a lot.

We love food, photography, life at the beach and good stories. Pasta&Co. is our way of paying homage to the people we meet and the traditions we love – to all the greatest women in our family, and above all others, to the legendary Nonna Nella, Nonna Lucia, and to the family that my husband and I have created and that every night sits at the table, and enjoys the passion, delight (and sometimes, undeniably hard work!) mixed in these dishes. <3

  1. What a great blog. We have a “fancy” deli / take out here in Seattle called “Pasta & Co.” They sell homemade pasta, sauces, deli type salads and actually the same owners as Beechers cheese. Anyway, thank you for visiting my blog today and I keep my eye out for your posts! :)
