Confetti, Coriandoli, Confettata. Jordan Almonds: An Italian Wedding Tradition and more

And why throwing confetti in Italy could hurt :)

LOL – confetti belongs (with pepperoni, biscotti and many more) to the (funny, dare I say) false friends category. Italians toss coriandoli and eat confetti. In Italian, confetti are sugar coated almonds (Jordan almonds) traditionally offered as favors at weddings, religious celebrations as baptism, communion and confirmation, and even at graduations. They used to have traditional colors (white for weddings, communion and confirmations; pink or light blue for baptisms – girl or boy; red for graduations), be wrapped in a tulle bag and offered along with a small silver object (it. bomboniere for favors).

Nowadays we still offer confetti, but the trend has changes and they come in many, fun colors and flavors. You can get chocolate confetti, chocolate and almonds, coffee-espresso confetti, limoncello, champagne, cappuccino, fruit. Virtually any flavor you may desire. For top-quality almonds, Avola and Sulmona are still the best you can get.

Confettata is a nice, very popular tradition – where you dedicate a whole table to the confetti so guests can get different shapes, flavors and combinations. We had one for our wedding, and both baptisms. It was fun!

We picked green and white as the main colors of our wedding confetti, even if the whole theme of that day was a palette of rainbow colors combined with the periodic table of elements (where design and science get married).
